This past May I was part of @san_diego_artivist thesis exhibition. Below see his reasoning for the exhibition. I got to help with the install of the faux border wall playing into the rhetoric vs reality that he experienced in his humanitarian work and the things he saw portrayed in the media. I was very honored to be a part of this exhibition, last year I got to see first hand the work and effort of humanitarian workers in the US/Mexico border. They gave food, provided information, built shelters for migrants they really just did what’s right to fellow humans in need. I am so grateful to have learned about this last year and now moving forward I know how I can be aware and informed on what goes on today. While at the border I made the piece that was part of the show On the Line/En la linea in 2024.

“For his thesis exhibition he “choose to celebrate, honor, and memorialize the efforts of humanitarain workers who strive to prevent suffering and save lives along the US/Mexico Border. While celebrating all aid workers from Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California border communities, this show highlights the work done since May 2023.

I believe it is imperative that we never forget the work of all humanitarian aide workers, paid and volunteers, who do the work in the face of increase hostility towards anyone who dares to care for others in the militarized border regions of the United States. I also believe it is very important to remember the reasons why people are forced to leave lives behind in the search for better and safer lives.

With fascism here and threatening anyone who believes in freedom, it is also important to learn from those who volunteered and who continue to do the work along the border and within San Diego communities. We should also learn from those who conduct ICE patrols and mutual aid distributions despite the threat of prosecution, or harassment. My hope is that others will be inspired by the work of activists and aid workers, so that they too will rise to occassion when they see other fellow humans in need. That is the reason for this exhibition: to remember and to inspire.”
