Dear Friends and Family,
Last time you heard from us was thanks to our dear friends Vanessa and Marisol, they updated everyone who donated, and we personally want to give you one last update. We believe this is an act of gratitude and a thank all of you, including the anonymous donors that helped us. We really could have never imagined receiving such overwhelming support and love from so many people. We really appreciate your messages, generous donations in all forms, and your love and support. We are really blessed to be a part of such a loving community and having you all to go though this experience.
It is truly remarkable how this experience has brought our family valuable lessons of love and relationships. Life really works in magical and unexpected ways.
Following our two week hospital stay in Greenville, North Carolina. We took on an impromptu cross-country roadtrip back home to San Diego, California. We are extremely grateful to Fernando’s work Compound Solutions, Matt and Kim stepped up and made the trip happen. We made stops every night to sleep more comfortably and we got to see states we had not been to before like Virginia, Arkansas, Texas and New Mexico . Once we were home we had the time to fully focus on our recovery journey. We were lucky to have lots of people coming to visit us, bring us food and treats, we even had a birthday party for Fernando in March.

Fernando
Fernando had two surgeries on his leg , which suffered multiple complex fractures on his tibia and fibula. He has been back at work since his hospital exit in February, bringing his laptop everywhere to stay on top of his work. At the beginning, his mobility was limited but we’re happy that he has been walking for three weeks now. One of his scars has been giving him a hard time in completely healing. This stopped him from going back to the gym, but finally after three months he has stepped inside and is back to his morning routine. Pictured below find the birthday party we hosted for his birthday. He wants to thank you but he says he’s not good at putting it into words. “Thank you”
Netze
Netze, unfortunately but without question, dropped her semester of classes at Miramar, as handling a full load of classes plus all of the changes that came with the accident would have been nearly impossible. She had the company of Fernandas’s mom to help navigate two non-walking adults plus the kids. Netze was the primary designated driver for the time Fernando and Fernanda couldn’t drive, going back and forth from doctors appointments to physical therapy. She has diligently been working on the cards you’ve received, collaborating with Fernanda in some of the details. She hopes you love them as much as she loved making them!
Fernanda
Fernanda is back in San Diego for good, since living in North Carolina for six months. She has been walking for three weeks now. Her favorite memory of this time was being in the doctors waiting room with everyone (pictured below) and joking about how Fernando and her were going to walk out of there carrying the wheelchair and walker, Only to do exactly that a week later after their first physical therapy appointment. “My dad was carrying the walker and I was pushing the wheelchair though the doors of the building, Netze greeted us with a surprised but joyous look on her face”
Pictured to the left is herself and her Bestie Marisok during the Los Angeles Times “Festival of Books” event that happened last weekend.
Sophie
Sophie been in and out of doctors appointments to make sure her brain injury doesn’t affect her in the future, taking the necessary steps to continue her journey and getting comfortable with all the changes she already facing (thanks to her being 12). Being back at school full time is draining but she’s taking it day by day while enjoying seeing her friends and attending to her club duties. She keeps saying that we should go back to North Carolina and do another cross country trip back to California, making sure to stop by a Buc-ee’s, this time with Alex since he wasn’t on there the first time around. You will read about Alex next.
Alex
Alex came back earlier than the rest of us, as he was able to fly, making his way back to California with his Aunt Mossy. Early arrival meant going back to school before Sophie, and he didn’t like that very much, but he persevered! He jumped right back into his soccer practice and games on Saturdays. We take him to therapy and are actively find more ways to help him through the emotional toll that the accident took on him. He was excited to wear his cowboy costume to his school presentation on the gold rush and to the left is a picture for you to see. Alex is really looking forward to go to Buc-ee’s one day.
Erika
Erika (Fernanda’s mom) was hurried to North Carolina once Netze told her of the accident. Her work was very lenient and let her stay in the US for 2 months!
Max, Fernanda’s brother came to visit during spring break, pictured to the right of Erika. She would take care of Fernanda and Fernando when Netze was attending mom duties. Erika left three weeks ago back to Guadalajara to continue her life in Mexico. We all miss her very much, Sophia misses her extra as she would make her cool hairstyles.
Polo
Polo is so happy to have the whole family together, he really missed everyone while we were in North Carolina. He was diligently taking care of the house while we were gone. He hasn’t been enjoying visitors that much as he is not very friendly and gets easily scared. (had to give him a shout out per Sophia’s request)

with so much love and gratitude, Thank You!
